Nike, a leading footwear company, has announced the launch of its first non-fungible commemorative( NFT) drop on its dotSwoosh Web3 community platform. The drop, named” Our Force 1″( OF1), will feature Polygon virtual sneaker NFTs paying homage to Nike’s iconic Air Force 1 sneaker that debuted 41 years ago. The collection will comprise hundreds of thousands of virtual shoes, with two types of boxes available for purchase.
The Classic Remix lurker boxes will contain virtual kicks inspired by Air Force 1 releases from 1982 to 2006, while the New Wave boxes will feature pairs designed in 2007 and latterly. The OF1 drop will also include unique, customized AF1s with a nostalgic or futuristic twist, mixed among the Classic Remix and New Wave boxes.
Nike’s Approach To Sell Virtual Sneakers
The virtual sneaker boxes will be priced at$19.82 USD, in reference to the time of the Air Force 1’s debut, and won’t be available for purchase using cryptocurrency. Nike’s first- ever virtual collection is inspired by the AF1 Low, a classic style that has been remixed innumerous times since its release in 1982.
The number of OF1 NFTs available for minting has not been revealed and there doesn’t appear to be a set limit. Nike will airdrop virtual AF1 posters to random dotSwoosh members, which will serve as keys to unlock OF1 box NFTs. Members will be eligible to mint OF1 boxes starting on May 8, while the entire Swoosh community can buy them on May 10.
Nike has over 330,000 dotSwoosh members, and anyone can join the platform for free. In February, Nike named four virtual shoe designs created by dotSwoosh members to point in the OF1 drop. Nike designers have since banded with these community members to bring the designs to life on the blockchain. The co-created designs will also be aimlessly scattered among the Classic Remix and New Wave boxes.
According to Ron Faris, General Manager of Nike Virtual Workrooms, Nike is exploring new styles to convey stories and establish connections while barring the limitations of physical products. He added that dotSwoosh is the business of the future, with further members concluding to express themselves in both physical and digital worlds. The OF1 boxes will offer fresh serviceability and benefits to holders, including access to exclusive physical products and gests .
Nike isn’t new to the digital sneaker business, having launched CryptoKicks, Ethereum based digital NFT wearables, last spring in collaboration with RTFKT, the NFT sneaker firm that Nike acquired in late 2021. These pairs snappily began dealing for further than$ 14,000 on secondary requests, having originally been airdropped to holders of other rare RTFKT NFTs.
With the OF1 NFTs, Nike seems to be espousing an unprejudiced approach by offering a large number of NFTs at fairly low, fixed price points. This approach, combined with the design’s community involvement element, appears to prioritize community participation in dotSwoosh, rather than generating quick returns in NFT profit. To summarize everything, the OurForce1 collection will feature digital renditions of AF1s from the history, present, and future.
