Japanese game developer Gumi Inc. is set to launch a Bitcoin Fund with SBI Financial Services on Saturday. The partnership will begin operating a 3 billion yen ($18.3 million) fund through the SBI Crypto Fund.
The company has pointed out that the fund ought to accumulate operational performance and data. It also aims to secure a leading position in the market.
On the other hand, it also expands Gumi’s crypto ambition to become the largest Japanese Bitcoin treasury company.
Gumi and SBI to Launch Bitcoin Fund with Altcoin Investments
Gumi confirmed that they will begin operating the crypto asset management fund from August 1, 2026. They have the backing of Daiwa Securities Group and other major investors. However, their names or individual investment amounts have not been disclosed.

The company stated that the fund intends to “bridge the gap between the cryptocurrency market and Japanese companies through investment in cutting-edge areas of the Web3 industry and the provision of liquidity.”
According to the company’s announcement, the SBI Crypto Fund I will primarily invest in Bitcoin treasury and major altcoins. The Bitcoin fund will use staking to lock up tokens and earn rewards.
It would utilize periodic rebalancing to restore the intended allocation and manage risk. The fund would also use hedging to reduce losses during price swings.
These strategies aim to provide greater exposure to digital assets rather than simply buying and holding tokens.
How is the fund structured?
The official announcement outlines that SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture, will manage the plan. In this, Gumi’s subsidiary, gC Labs, owns 49% of the operating company. On the other hand, SBI Financial Services owns 51%.
The vehicle intends to establish joint research on new portfolio strategies to generate income and improve operational performance. Through this approach, the companies are aiming to develop next-generation financial products that meet consumer needs while promoting innovation.
Gumi to expand its crypto strategy with this fund
Gumi has managed the crypto and Bitcoin treasury since 2018. The Japanese game developer primarily used Bitcoin and XRP as its core assets. It also runs a crypto investment fund business.
Last year, the company also established Hinode Technologies through its subsidiary gC Labs. It provides portfolio management services and node operation to investors.
As of 30 April 2026, the company’s annual crypto asset holdings were reported at 14.13 billion yen. The number nearly doubled from last year’s balance sheet. The launch is expected to expand its long-term crypto strategy.
What does the Bitcoin fund signal for Japan’s crypto market?
The company stated that the Bitcoin fund intends to align the cryptocurrency market with Japan’s corporate sector. Its goal is to establish an investment strategy of crypto exchange-traded funds in the country.
The initiative comes at a time when several Japanese firms are considering regulatory approaches to crypto exchange-traded products. Investors and market participants are watching how this approach will shape Japan’s future crypto ecosystem.
